This year, the League of American Bicyclists ranked Oklahoma 35th in the nation for bike friendliness. The state made an eight-place improvement from the 2011 ranking of 43rd.
Although it's still a long way to the top, the league's Bicycle Friendly State report card for Oklahoma said events like the Saint Francis Tulsa Tough cycling festival "are an excellent first step" toward making the state more welcoming to cyclists.
