Untied blog: fall back into safety

In the early morning hours of Sunday, Nov. 6, Daylight Savings Time ends for this season. We’ve already noticed the shorter days and less daylight to run or walk in, regardless of whether you workout in the morning or evening.

As runners and walkers, we know the importance of safety in the dark, but we don’t always know exactly how to ensure our well-being. Things like running on well-lit, wide streets are always a good idea, as well as sticking to sidewalks where possible. Always run against traffic, and it’s also a good idea to lose the music while running in the dark to make sure you hear oncoming cars, bikes or other pedestrians. Wear light or bright colors to make yourself easy to spot and don’t forget to run in groups or pairs for the other kind of personal safety!

The right gear is the other angle, and that’s where we come in. We provide special products that can make you even more visible at night, including reflective clothing; reflective accessories and blinking clip-on lights or headlamps to ensure drivers (and cyclists) know you are there.

Since we are a running and walking specialty store, we have the opportunities to not only provide you with products, but also expertise and events co-sponsored by Fleet Feet and our vendors.

At 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 3 at the Fleet Feet KingsPointe store (61st and Yale), a Brooks representative will be onsite to show the Brooks Nightlife collection of apparel and accessories. This special apparel is “high visibility” to increase your chances of being seen. There will be a fun run and walk at 6 p.m. with organized run and walk leaders. Afterwards we will have refreshments and a free gift with a Brooks apparel or accessory purchase.

On Thursday we will also offer a special BROOKS SALE all day at both of our stores. You will receive 20 percent off any Brooks apparel or accessory item. Thursday is the day to learn how to be seen to get ready for those morning and evening runs and walks.

Join us and don’t forget to change those clocks on Saturday night!
